The Great Backyard Bird Count is an annual four-day event that engages bird watchers of all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of where the birds are across the continent. Anyone can participate, from beginning bird watchers to experts. It takes as little as 15 minutes on one day, or you can count for as long as you like each day of the event. It’s free, fun, and easy—and it helps the birds. It is a great family activity and we recommend you visit http://www.birdsource.org/gbbc/ for fun children activities and more information on this event. Various species of birds can be found at Blue Licks throughout the year and we encourage all of our park visitors to participate. Be sure to dress properly for weather conditions and you may also want to bring binoculars and a camera. If you have internet access, we recommend you submit your bird count via http://www.birdsource.org/gbbc/ , but if you do not have internet access a copy of the species form, checklists, and other bird watching tips are available at the front desk in the Worthington Lodge.

Celebrate Valentine's Day with that special someone at Greenbo Lake's Jesse Stuart Lodge. A romantic getaway for $58 that includes not only lodging, but Continental Breakfast and tickets to See Sandy Harmon's performance of Lily May Ledford Coon Creek Girl (1917-1985)
When Lily May Ledford was a young girl growing up in a musical family in Eastern Kentucky’s Red River gorge, she wanted a fiddle so badly that she traded her most precious possession, a box of crayons, for a broken down instrument that didn’t have strings, tuning pegs, or a bow. She eventually became better known for banjo picking than fiddling, but that old fiddle helped launch a career that brought Lily May and her Kentucky mountain music to a national audience. Join Sandy Harmon as she brings Lily May Ledford to life in her One Woman performance of one of the Coon Creek Girls. There will also be a Special Valentine's Sweetheart Buffet for an additional cost.

Carolyn Gaskin & Robin Hall will be visiting Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park just before dusk in search of paranormal evidence. They will be leading a team of people through the park with various ghost hunting equipment (cameras, camcorders, etc.) in hopes of spotting and communicating with spirits from the past and hopefully from the battle that took place at this park hundreds of years ago. This group is comprised of mostly women that share this common interest, but it is open to men as well. Each member of the group is passionate and enthusiastic about paranormal activity and each possesses different abilities. They invite the general public to join them at any point during this 4-6 hour quest. This is not a park event, but since it is something that many of our visitors enjoy, this group has made this activity available to all park visitors that wish to learn more about paranormal activity and/or join them on their hunt. This very informal event will be dependent upon weather so call the park that day to confirm.

Winter is a wonderful time to hike. You don’t have to worry about poison ivy or ticks and the scenery is just beautiful. Many of the sandstone cliffs in the area are covered with ice and without the leaves on the trees you can see many of the rock formations better than any other time of the year. Join park naturalist, Rebecca Clark as she guides a hike of several trails within the park and forest. Registration fee $12.00 per person.
